His owner, Zachary wishes for Rip to stay close by and be his sidekick but something in his blood draws Rip to the sea.  Despite repeated efforts by Nick, the beach supervisor,to get rid of Rip, this beautiful canine feels a need to guard the beach and perform any rescues that may arise. One hot August day an impending storm causes a real riptide and Rip is called into action.  The descriptive way in which this story is written will have youngsters on the edge of their seats as they wait to see Rip attempt perhaps his most important rescue of Blake uses gorgeous oil paintings to convey a realistic dog and his adventures in this tale.
