This intriguing young adult novel is one that will stay with you for months after reading it. Christopher John Francis Boone is a teenage autistic boy on a mission. At the beginning of the story, he happens upon his neighbors dead dog. After arriving at the scene of the crime, the police wrongly accuse Christopher of the murder and so begin his quest. He spends all of his waking hours trying to solve this murder mystery even though his father is adamant that he ‘ not stick his nose in other peoples business’. While investigating the death of the dog, Wellington, Christopher discovers that his mother is living in London. This comes as a huge surprise considering his father told him that she had died of a heart attack. Now Christopher sets out to find his mother and when he puts his mind to something- watch out!

You will find yourself in a British train station and feel as though you are with Christopher as he attempts to escape capture from police officers. You will learn of the difficulties of living with Christopher through his mother’s letters explaining why she left.

Mark Haddon really takes readers inside the world of autism explaining that logic is critical while emotions are much difficult to handle. This well-written story will be enjoyed by teenagers and adults alike. Not only is it great fiction but the facts within it will amaze you.
