As the cold weather approaches, we will soon see the snow flying and before we know it there will be snowmen on the lawns of families everywhere. This sweet story is a take on the original “There was an old woman who swallowed a fly” with a touch of winter thrown in for good measure. The cold lady starts off by swallowing snow but then her toes get cold so she swallows a pipe to keep them warm. To keep the pipe lit, she swallows some coal then to keep the snow down, she swallows a stick. Then to keep warm, she swallows a scarf. Why would someone want to swallow of all these things. It seems they all have something in common? At the end of the story she hiccups twice, and out of her belly comes the answer. Unlike the original at the end this tale, no one dies but rather new life appears.
Each page of the story builds on the previous page allowing youngsters to interact with the storytelling by guessing what comes next. A great way to build confidence in early readers. Comical illustrations accompany the rhyming text giving way to even more laughs by everyone who has the chance to read this story.
