Today as I helped our five-year-old daughter set up her seaglass and rock display at the end of the driveway, it reminded me of the hours we spent on our beach as children picking the prettiest, the flattest and the smoothest of rocks. More often than not, my Mom would patiently help all of our cousins and friends set up our ‘gallery’ of rocks… some things never change.

This fine picture book is perfect for those of us who enjoy the simpler things in life like finding good rocks. Did you know that a rock with a line all the way around it is thought to be a wishing rock? Or what about a kicking rock, one that leads you all the way home? As we visited our dear friend this week, our children quickly noticed her collection of heart-shaped rocks displayed beautifully on an outdoor table. This gave us an idea to do the same to our ever-growing assortment. So much fun can be had with these natural wonders of the Earth.
