This retro-style book with its purple cover and vintage illustrations will amuse mothers of all ages. Whether you are a mother of youngsters and are looking for advice on birthday party ideas or a mother of teens wanting to know what you shouldn’t say in front of their friends, no doubt you will find this little book entertaining. The section on comebacks for mothers when their children make certain statements is perfect. Who hasn’t heard themselves respond to “I don’t want anymore!” with “Think about the starving children” or the age-old “Why?” with “Because I said so!”.
There are a few classic recipes thrown in for good measure. The Easy Cereal bars look easy and delicious! Then there is the section on things that mothers should never do including, Make your children’s clothes or Wear your children’s clothes.
Everyone will find the stories about famous (and infamous) mothers engaging. Who knew that Ma Barker was the mastermind behind the Karpis-Barker gang who went on a four-year crime spree during the Depression?
What I like best about this book is that it can be picked up and enjoyed for a few minutes at a time. The information is presented in short snippets which works well for the mothers I know who excel at doing things quickly and to the point. Perhaps my favorite quote in the book is by Hester Mundis “There is no such thing as a nonworking mother.”
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the hard-working mothers out there from all of us at Benjamin’s Books.
