Here Today is about a girl named Ellie. Ellie has a brother named Albert and a sister named Marie. First their mother is crowned the Bosetti Beauty of Spectacle, New York. But that is not good enough for Ellie’s mother Doris; she wants to get noticed more so she goes to New York to become an actress, leaving her family behind. Ellie has to take care of her family, doing the cooking, washing and other things. At school Ellie and her friend Holly are having problems with the Sparrows, the popular kids. Ellie’s life is being turned upside down.
The book tells the story of Ellie’s grade six year of school and all the horrible things that happen. She ends up learning how to cope without her mother who was not really much of a mother anyway.
The story is one of my favourite books because it showed me that not everyone lives the same as I do. Also sometimes the author left you hanging so you had to read the next chapter to see what would happen next. I would recommend “Here Today” for girls in grade four to six.
