"HI Mary Ann!

I read the books that you sent me to three elementary classes here in Hawaii. As you expected, the younger children loved East to the Sea. We were able to make connections between Hawaii and Canada. The kids could not even imagine what it would be like to drive all night in the car to go on vacation! They all thought roasting Marshmallows sounded yummy.

The older children enjoyed The Final Game and then asked question after question about Canada. They were very sad that there are no "Jack-in-the-Box" restaurants in Canada. When I showed them Canadian coins and asked them who was the "lady" on the back, one person yelled out "Linda Lingle". Linda is the Governor of Hawaii...but these are 10 year olds, afterall! :)

"I just wanted to say a big thank you for the Hank Zipzer series of books which I recently picked up for winning your contest. These books are very entertaining. I started reading the books to my boys as soon as we picked them up and now they can't wait for our "reading time" every night before bed when I read a few more chapters to them. They laugh and are really enjoying this series. The thoughts and ideas in these books are something that all young boys can relate to.

Hi! I wanted to thank you for the lovely and supportive write-up on my Canadian Flyer Adventure series. I'm currently working on book 7 about the Underground Railroad and having a great time writing the series.

I'll be out east for book week this year, visiting schools in Newfoundland but one day I hope to visit NB.

Thank you for sending me such a kind email! I've had a wonderful year, celebrating the success of The Wicked Slapshot. Boys and girls from across Canada have written me, expressing their "two thumbs-up" approval. One comment I've heard many times is how kids read this book more than once. Some more than 10x! This surprised me at first, and then I thought about how this book really bridges the picture book and full-length novel. And it's a feel good book, too. I hope everyone enjoys The Funny Faceoff as much. The story is based on a true incident, where my son Tom sang a similar song in grade two with his hockey pals. Unfortunately, they were suspended for a day! With this book about to hit the shelves, we can now laugh at the situation.
